Plant-powered protection, science-backed, handcrafted for skin and season.
Infused with the strength of wild herbs and the wisdom of ancestral care, Woodland Shield is a rich, nourishing lotion crafted to repel ticks, mosquitos, and biting bugs—without a single synthetic ingredient.
We blend our skin-loving, grass-fed tallow with lightweight jojoba oil—creating a smooth, fast-absorbing cream that disappears into the skin. It’s finished with a potent essential oil blend of geranium, lemongrass, cedarwood, rosemary, thyme, eucalyptus, and lavender—a carefully balanced combination chosen for both its insect-repelling power and its wearable, botanical scent.
Why it works:
- Repels ticks and mosquitoes naturally with herbal oils priven to deter pests
- Gentle on skin, safe for daily wear—no sticky residue, no harsh chemicals; safe for kids.
- Powered by tallow, jojoba, and essential oils to support your skin barrier
- Perfect for hikes, gardening, camping, or everyday defense
The Science Behind Geranium for Tick & Bug Repelling
Geranium essential oil (Pelargonium graveolens) has been studied for its powerful repellent effects—particularly against ticks, mosquitoes, and flies. Its main active components—like geraniol, citronellol, and linalool—are known for their insect-deterring properties.
Clinical & Research Backing:
-
Tick Repellent Study (2009) – A study published in Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry tested 10 essential oils against nymphal ticks (Ixodes scapularis). Geranium oil was one of the most effective, even at low concentrations. It performed better than DEET in some trials.
- [Citation: Carroll et al., J. Agric. Food Chem., 2009, 57 (16), pp 6297–6305]
- Insect Behavior Research – Geraniol, a primary compound in geranium oil, has shown neurotoxic effects on insects, which disrupt their ability to locate hosts via scent trails.
- Alternative to DEET – The EPA and several natural product studies have noted geraniol and geranium oil as promising natural alternatives to synthetic repellents.
Why It’s Especially Good for Ticks:
Ticks detect hosts through olfactory cues (carbon dioxide, sweat, body heat). Geranium oil masks those cues and deters them from attaching. It’s particularly useful when combined with other EO allies like cedarwood, thyme, and lemongrass for synergistic protection.
